Multiducts are larger hydroponic re-circulating systems and they run with the technique developed in the 1950’s of NFT or Nutrient Film Technique. The MD100, MD200 and MD300 are made by Nutriculture.
All three MD’s here feature the same 3 channel Top Tray which is 160 x 86 x 5cm. It is predrilled for the 3 point delivery system at the raised end. The other lower end is designed to allow the gravitational drainage of liquids off the tray and into the reservoir that sits below. From the reservoir, liquids are pumped by a MaxiJet MJ1000 through the delivery tubing back to the raised end of the Top Tray, where they begin the journey again. To achieve the angle for natural drainage, the MD’s come with a 3 Channel Multiduct Stand. All the plastics used are of robust design and takes away the potential headache of managing large amounts of water/ nutrient within a building. Unlike many other hydroponic systems, the design of the Multiducts prevents leakage from potentially occurring.
Always use Spreader Matting with NFT, because it will aid breaking up the surface tension of liquid as it travels down the tray and allows even spread of water and nutrient to your plants roots.
The MD100 has a 50 litre reservoir 101 x 48.5 x 20.5cm and the Stand has a height of 23.8cm. It is ideal for 10-20 plants. Two 600w lights are needed for good growth with the MD100.
The MD200 comes with a 123 litre reservoir 120 x 70 x 24cm, with a taller Stand of height 28cm. Again, it suits 10-20 plants, with a couple of 600w lights. The reason for the larger reservoir, is to give a greater length of time before refilling with nutrient solution.
The MD300 uses the same Top Tray as the MD100 but with two of them (20-40 plants), an extra taller 28cm Stand, and Delivery Fittings to run off the 123 litre reservoir. The reservoir sits at the lower end of both Top Trays and services both of them via the MJ1000 pump. Growers using MD’s and in particular the MD300, may want to consider using an Auto-Top-Up-System which will keep the reservoir stocked. Remember, with all NFT systems, running dry is easily fatal for your plants, as the 3” or 4” rockwool cubes that your plants are rooted in, won’t hold moisture for very long. DON’T RUN DRY.
