The BigShop have a large and growing range of products to help with insect and bug control problems in your grow room. Some insects may be harmless to your plants, or actively useful ie ladybirds or natural predators which will wipe out a Spider Mite problem eventually but are not really suitable for dealing with an infestation in a short flowering plant. The Red Spider Mite is actually not one single type of mite but is a biological term used to cover an assortment of similar looking arachnids belonging to the group Acarina.
The worst pest in this group and the main one to protect your growspace from is Paninychus ulmi, which has the ability to spread so rapidly and profusely that your plants can be sucked dry- literally defoliated- they can even do this to trees and shrubs. Outside it is generally not so much of a problem because there is a huge variety of plant life to feed on, but when insects and bugs get into a grow room/ poly tunnel or greenhouse, they will thrive because of the extra warmth and light, coupled with an abundant supply of food.
Fumite smoke generators should really only be used in a plant free environment as a comprehensive way of eradicating Spider Mites and any other existing pests- they are very toxic but the most thorough remedy.
A New addition to the BigShop pest controls is the excellent Dr. Schimmel Spidermite Terminator- which is a foliar spray suitable for use nearly up to harvest (ie during flowering!) or can be used as a dip on small plants.
We also stock Spider Mite Control from the makers of Formulex and Clonex which is a repeat vegging stage leafwash natural insect killer( ie only use during vegging, pre changing light cycle to flower. Treat 2-3 times at intervals of 2-3 days making sure you treat the underside of the leaves thoroughly to dripping.
Protector is another new product from Agropharm, (and is a great natural alternative to Fumite smoke generators) which can be used for all aphids, spider mites and caterpillars. It is all natural and suitable for all edible crops, although we suggest you avoid spraying open blooms.
Leafcoat, a BioBizz product is a latex based plant strengthener with a small amount of nutrition that forms a very fine layer around your leaf, which restrains evaporation from the plant but still allows light and air to pass through. It naturally degrades after two weeks so can be used on your flowering plants up until two weeks before harvest. It is not an insect eliminator but it gives excellent protection to your plant.
